Westview Cemetary

Combining my love for history and photography, Jamie and I walked the placid grounds of Atlanta's Westview Cemetary yesterday for several hours. Some may wonder why I have this morbid fascination for cemetaries. Others understand the peace and solitude that comes from these splendid domiciles of the deceased. Away from the hustle and bustle of mortal life I wander in faultless placidity. I reflect on the unseen lives shrouded in grass, and dirt, and stone. I dwell upon the bygone times of their lifes journey. I wonder about the lives they touched, and were touched by; and I give them breath again in my mind. It may sound odd to you but, I love cemeteries, and I'm not alone. There are thousands of people from all walks of life that share my fondness for these eternal gardens.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my interest in cemetaries dates back to my youth. I have always been impressed with the many unique and varied tributes to the passing of loved ones in the form of statuary, mausoleums, and prose. I find a sense of calm as I walk around their eternal resting place. With my camera in hand, they are remembered once more. Click on the angel below to see a slideshow of my visit to Westview.

I hope you and Jamie truly enjoyed Westview. I have family members buried there. I went there often as a little girl with my Grandmother. She always took flowers on Easter and Christmas. It is a truly peaceful place. I always felt calm when we were there.

This was beautiful! I can't believe how many photographs are in your album and how beautiful the sculpture is in this cemetery!

Thank you so much for sharing this!
