Hummingbirds

Have I mentioned that I live for the weekend? Because they are so precious to me, I'm sure I did...several times. I count down the days from Monday to Friday until the weekend when Doughboy and I are free from all the pressures of being at work. This was another spectacular two days of rest, relaxation, and family. Ayden slept over again Saturday and it was a resounding success. I guess I don't need to worry anymore about him getting homesick. We played in the pool, had a cookout with the entire family, and had a repeat of fun on Sunday. Nothing gives me more pleasure than spending time with family, especially our grandchildren. I tried to perfect my photography skills by attempting to stop the motion of hummingbirds. I'm getting there. At least I think I made some progress. You be the judge. I used my AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm and Nikon D300.

If you care to be bored, click on the photo below for a slideshow of hummingbirds.

first of all, I am never bored when viewing your photography. second, I think there was a feeding frenzing going on in your backyard this weekend. it just so happened that I saw two hummingbirds perched in a bradford pear tree branch out my window yesterday. they poor babies were looking for nectar, but were out of luck.

Thanks much for the kind words, Deb. My photography skills are a work in progress. You can sum up my hobby skills as "Jack of all trades; Master of none".

We always have a feeding frenzy of hummers. At one time there were five hummers fighting for a place at the feeder. One of my shots captured four, although you can barely make out the tail of the 4th on the backside of the feeder. I never get tired of watching them. For all their delecate size, they are fiercly territorial.

Hope all is going well with baby Jack :)

Debra, looks like you got the hummingbird pictures down. Love the one on the blog, it's beautiful and shows him perfectly. Great job!

Debra, My favorite is the one of the two birds facing each other. It looked like one bird was in front of a mirrow or window. I know that you talked to them and arranged that photo or maybe you picked up your magic wand. That is a priceless photo. When are you going to start sending in your photos for contest? I have seen them give away some great prizes. The contest for Georgia photographers was a great event. It was on public tv. This week-end was a perfect Ga week-end. The weather was teasing us with just a hint of coolness to the air. Of course it will not last. We still have the dog days of summer coming. But it was great. Fred and I throughly enjoyed it.

Absolutely beautiful. It was funny to watch you perched next to the feeder just waiting for the perfect shot. I don't have enough patience for that...I only wanted to float in the pool:) Thanks again for such a great weekend!

Gorgeous!!!!! I have yet to catch my hummers at my feeder. By the time I get the camera out they are long gone. I am green with envy. :)
